LBAA Points system - 2007

May 1, 2008

Purpose: The points system is to be used to identify and rank those bowlers who have exhibited continuing high performance in Provincial and Canadian Championship events.

Bowlers so identified may be invited by the LBAA and its High Performance Committee to participate in Interprovincial, Intra-provincial or other events.

A Bowler must be a member of the LBAA in the preceding year to be considered to be eligible for the current team. If there is a medical reason for not playing then points can be retained and consideration will be given to that individual.

Rational: The points system is partially based on the points system used by Bowls Canada to select the Canadian team. (see BCB website for details).

Points will be calculated on an annual basis for performance in events from May 1 though April 30 of the following year.

High performance in the most challenging and important open events requiring the highest skill levels from all individuals and leading to Canadian championships (identified as Tier 1) will be given the most weighting.

High performance in other open events leading to Canadian championships (identified as Tier 2) will be given the next most weighting.

High performance in other LBAA Provincial open events or LBAA affiliated open events (identified as Tier 3) will be given minor weighting.

High performance in restricted entry events will be given no weighting unless the winners of a restricted entry event are not allowed to enter any further LBAA Tier 1 or Tier 2 open events during that calendar year (see LBAA Conditions of Play). Entrants in restricted entry events have the full opportunity to exhibit high performance in all the open events.

Points may be given to the top 4 finishers in a tournament.

High performance in a tournament is considered only valid if an individual or team finishes in the top 1/3 of tournament entries. If an individual or team does not finish in the top third of the tournament entries then no points will be awarded as this would be not be considered as high performance.

Additional points will be given to first place finishers in a LBAA Tier 1 or Tier 2 open event for excellent performance in the applicable Canadian Championship.

Only the single best point result will be used in any year. The LBAA does not generally allow the winners of a Playdown event to participate in any further Playdown events in that calendar year, therefore an individual should not be given points for more than one event in any year.

In order to show continuing high performance, a bowler must show performance over an extended period, which has been defined as three years.

Canadian Men’s and Ladies’ Fours 6 4 2 1
Canadian Men’s and Ladies’ Indoor Singles 6 4 2 1
Canadian Mixed Pairs 6 4 2 1

(4) Annual Best Performance

An individual will only receive points in a particular year for his or her best performance in that year.

The one single Provincial event (plus any additional points for the same event at the Canadian championships) that gives an individual the highest point amount will be that individual's points for that year. No additional points will be given for multiple results.

(5) Three Year Total

The points total for an individual is the sum of the most recent 3 years annual best performance points.
Note: results for current LBAA members will receive points for non Alberta Provincial and Canadian tournament results equal to Alberta tournaments per all of the above.

(6) Points Ranking and selection criteria

All individuals will be ranked based on the above. If individuals are tied in points, then the most recent year's results will be used as a tiebreaker.

Examples:

Joe finishes third in the Singles (12 points), Second in the Mixed Pairs (10 points) and wins the Provincial Mixed Triples (4 points). Joe would count only his best result and would get 12 points.

Wanda finishes second in the Singles (14 points) and First in the Mixed Pairs (12 points) plus finishes second in the Canadian Mixed Pairs (4 bonus points). Wanda would count her best result and would get 16 points (12 + 4).
